Some couple enjoys the benefit of their conceiving labors right away by getting pregnant easily. Others don’t have the luxury that they enjoy. Some couples are still trying to conceive after a year of trying and some are getting frustrated and depressed. If you think that you have reproductive problems hindering your goal of getting pregnant, you should see your doctor immediately. He/she will perform a series of fertility test in order to determine the problem.
Here are some of the most common female fertility tests at present:
1. Checking your cervix
Your cervix will be checked if you have Chlamydia, gonorrhea, ureaplasm urealyticum and other viral and bacterial infections. These infections might have cause the problem of infertility.
2. Pelvic Ultrasound Examination
With the use of the ultrasound technology, your doctor will check your pelvic organs if they have any abnormalities like cysts and many other.
3. Endometrial Biopsy
In this procedure, your doctor might need a sample of your uterine lining called endometrium to check if there is enough amount of progesterone in your system and if ovulation really happens in your body. Common side effects of this test: cramps, discomfort and slight spotting.
4. Blood Testing
This procedure requires blood sample take from your body. Then it will be send to be evaluated in the laboratory. The levels of your follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone hormone, extradiol hormone and prolactin hormone will be exmined to verify for any disorders in your eggs, ovulation, thyroid and other reproductive organs. Your blood sample will also be evaluated if there is occurrence of communicable diseases like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis, syphilis and rubella (German measles) antibody and any immune disorders.
5. Hysteroscopy
There might be a chance that your uterus and ovaries have some minimal defects in it. Your doctor might want to check it out by inserting a hysteroscope to the woman’s cervix and into the uterus. He/she will check if there are small fibroids, polyps, adhesions and scar tissues that might have deter your chance of getting pregnant.
6. Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
Before doing hysteroscopy your doctor might recommend you to some hysterosalpingogram at first. This procedure will require the use of x-ray in order for your doctor to see if there is something blocking your fallopian tubes and if there are other abnormalities like fibroids, polyps, unevenly large uterus and adhesions. If this procedure fails to detect anything your doctor might recommend taking the hysteroscopy procedure.
7. Laparoscopy
In order to have a clear view of your reproductive organs, your doctor might want to do a laparoscopy test. This procedure requires the use of a small tiny telescope which will be inserted through a small insertion in your abdomen. Endometriosis, scarring and adhesions, fibroids, ovarian cysts and blocked fallopian tubes can be detected and treated surgically under general anesthesia during laparoscopy. Some side effects of laparoscopy include mild nausea, discomfort in the abdominal area, vaginal bleeding and pain due to the surgical procedure.
