January 21, 2010

Women have their own fertile phase called ovulation period. This is the time where an ovum will be release from the female’s ovary to the uterus. Having sex with your other half around this time increase the chances of getting pregnant. But how will you know if you are ovulating? Here are some of the signs and ways to know:

1. Increased in basal body temperature – this is the temperature of your body when it’s at rest. The best time to get this temp will be after you wake up and before doing anything. You can use a digital basal thermometer to accurately know your BBT. When charting your BBT and you see a rise o.5 to 1 degrees Fahrenheit then you just finished ovulating. Monitoring your BBT for 3 months will give you the approximate time of your ovulation period.

2. Cervical Mucus changes – changes in the women’s cervical mucus can also determine ovulation. When you see an egg white appearance, slippery and wet cervical mucus then you are nearing your ovulation day.

3. Changes in the cervix – the position of your cervix can also detect your ovulation period. You can check this by inserting your finger into your vagina. After your menstrual period your cervix will feel close and dry. This is your infertile phase. But if you’reĀ  nearing ovulation, the feel of your cervix will change. It will become soft and moist. During ovulation period your cervix will be open and hard to reach.

4. Mittelschmerz or abdominal cramps – pain in the lower abdomen can also be a sign of ovulation.
