What You Need to Know Before You Try To Conceive

Getting from Desire to First Pregnancy and Beyond

Pregnancy is not the first step

For any couple, the first pregnancy is quite significant. The process of getting pregnant is never the same. Some couples have pregnancy and parenthood thrust upon them as a happy surprise. Others discuss the event, and easily move from the planning phase to parenthood in a few short months.  For still other couples, the process of putting any sort of pregnancy plans into action becomes an uphill battle, which seems doomed with heartbreak and ultimate failure.

When Failure isn’t an Option with the First Pregnancy

For some, this gloomy outlook on attaining the ever-illusive first pregnancy is not an option.  The adage of, “Where there is a will, there is a way,” becomes the rock upon which all efforts to get pregnant are founded.  It is just as well that the can-do attitude holds sway. When the normal medical routes of fertility treatments are followed, the old adage is sorely tested.

There are scores of medical procedures and medications which fertility-challenged couples find lain at their feet. A few of the most common are prescription medication to boost hormone levels and increase ovulation or otherwise maintain a healthy reproductive system, in vitro fertilization, ovulation charting, and artificial insemination.

Due to expense, some of these options often are out of reach for most couples wanting their first pregnancy.  Other options, such as medications, are more cost-effective but carry with them certain risks, which can be difficult to knowingly accept.  One such risk is that of a multiple birth.  Proof of the reality of this risk can be seen on the cover of many gossip rags in the form of “The Octuplet Mom.”

Other Options that Increase Fertility

When the first pregnancy does not automatically follow careful discussion and planning, more can be done that is less medically invasive, risky, and expensive than most of the medical options.  Herbs have been used for centuries to increase the health and overall wellbeing of people the world over.  Fertility problems are not precluded from the benefits of herbal medicine.

In this fast-paced country of modern everything, the image of treating any ailment with centuries old herbal remedies conjures images of a backwoods medicine man or a toothless, hook-nosed gypsy.

The reality is far from these negative connotations.  Herbs have taken the spotlight in recent decades in medical and pharmaceutical research.  Many of the most exciting and cutting edge advances in prescription medication to treat everything from diabetes to asthma have a direct link back to herbs and other plant based substances.

Why trade herbs for their synthetic pharmaceutical counterparts.  In some cases, it is not even possible to choose a pill that is able to have the same effect as fertility herbs because as of yet medical science has not been able to synthetically replicate it.

No matter which path is followed along the way to the first pregnancy, it is important to keep an open mind and find which one works for each individual’s situation.  Whether you decide to go with a less invasive treatment, or you want to increase your chances in conjunction with other fertility treatments, click here to increase the odds of your first pregnancy happening with the right combination of diet and herbal supplements.
