However much one may plan or dream about the time parenthood happens to them, infertility treatments usually don’t figure into the picture.  The fact of the matter is that for 15% of couples who desire to conceive infertility, it is a stark reality.  It is also a true stereotype that very few of these couples enter the world of infertility treatments with a balanced view of all the options.

A definite discrepancy between available infertility treatment options and options of which the public in general is aware of is wide.  It is true that the public does not suffer from infertility; therefore, a widespread general knowledge of reliable fertility options may seem moot.

There is no way to predict who will need the information.  Infertile persons are not generally born with some sort of identifying birthmark, which would enable a targeted education program to be effective. Even if you do not need this information, you may know someone who will, and this makes the need to improve common knowledge about infertility treatments.

Common Knowledge of Infertility Treatments

The average person’s working knowledge of infertility treatments is usually limited to the treatment course offered by Western Medicine.  Even this general knowledge is very sparse and lacking anything akin to informed consent.

To set the record straight, the usual course of infertility treatment offered by a traditional doctor begins with prescription medications.  If pharmaceuticals fail to induce pregnancy, the treatment course moves to IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) or IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) in addition to medications.

These mechanized measures only produce pregnancy for about one third of the hopeful couples seeking these interventions as a last ditch effort to gain access to parenthood.  The untold numbers tell a very different story.  Pregnancy does not guarantee a baby. The medical professionals who perform IVF pregnancy, regardless of outcome of conception, counted it as success.

Sifting viable pregnancies from unviable ones is only the beginning.  Pregnancies that do result in the live birth of a baby (or babies) do not mean a healthy child.  The traditional route of infertility treatments is best described as a knife that cuts both ways.

The failure rate is very high, leaving empty hearts and cribs in its shadow. For others, hearts and cribs are filled with lovely little creatures.  Others may get the baby they so wished for only without the dreamed of health, vitality and bright mainstream future.

These detrimental side effects are not limited to multiple births so infamously connected with infertility treatments like IVF.  Side effects with the potential to permanently impact the health of the baby begin with the very first pill.

The Unknown Side Effects of Traditional Fertility Treatments

The undiscussed side effects of traditional medicine are only the tip of the iceberg.  The real elephant hiding in most doctors’ offices is that there is an entirely different route, which can be taken to conceive.  Yet a medical doctor will rarely inform patients of these options because they fall under the umbrella of “Alternative Medicine”.

Alternative Medicine is gaining traction in mainstream popularity and enjoys the highest growth rate of new patients from year to year.  There is reason public opinions are shifting from the wildly unflattering images of crystal-wielding, chanting witch doctors to sought-for medical treatments and practitioners.

For years, Western Medicine has bandied the lack of modern research in an effort to discredit Alternative Medicine and its various practices.  The only problem is that a growing body of research is actually validating claims, which practitioners and patients of Alternative Medicine have been making for decades and in some cases for hundreds of years.

While a stigma-free visit to the chiropractor’s office is not really what infertile couples are looking to find, there are many treatments Alternative and Complimentary Medical providers can offer.

The Difference between Traditional and Alternative Medicine for Infertility

The traditional medical approach to infertility is linear.  One treatment leads to the next and so on. Until after a series of failures, then doctors throw their hands into the air and move to the next patient.  These failed procedures leave couples with little hope of ever naturally conceiving a child of their own.

Alternative fertility treatments are very different.  After meeting with an Alternative Medical care provider who specializes in the treatment of infertility, a variety of treatments are put into action right from the start.  These treatments are specific to each person and are meant to treat the individualized needs of that person alone.  There is no “one size fits all” treatment plan.  Every person is examined and given a custom treatment plan for their needs.

The treatment plans themselves include a wide variety of therapies.  Each therapy is designed to increase the overall health of the body, as well as strengthen and support the various functions of the reproductive system. Therapies include, but are not limited to herbs, vitamin supplementation, an exercise routine, acupuncture, and detoxification of the body.

Herbal Treatments

It is commonly known and accepted that herbs and vitamins improve the overall health of the body.  Certain herbs, like Artemisia, vitamin E, bulrush, red raspberry leaf, Chi Shao and others, actually stimulate the reproductive system.  This added support often results in the healthy and natural conception and birth of a baby.

Exercises

Exercise is also very important when pregnancy is illusive.  Not just any exercise will do.  Some of the most commonly engaged in exercise routines serve to be counterproductive if pregnancy is the goal.

For optimum results, exercise routines for pregnancy should be less taxing and regular–yet still challenging for the body.  Every person comes to parenthood at differing physical aptitudes. This means to choose the exercise best suited to create optimum fertility will likewise be different for everyone.
